6.6???? REALLY???

this movie is a true classic that came out of the 90's. there is no way this movie should be a 6, this makes no sense. candyman was truly creepy, tony todd did an amazing job. his voice just gets into you're brain. very well acted by everyone. the urban setting was beautiful.. the score to the movie is scary and unnerving. candyman should be up there along with other classic villains such as dracula.

Terrifies me to this day.

Just saw an unedited version for the first time tonight. Instant classic. Horror movies are rarely done with the quality of Candyman, or hell any movie is rarely this well done.

I'd actually say it's a fair score. Candyman had narrative potential going in but it suffered from a confused erratic screenplay that couldn't pin down a tone or genre and an awful orchestral attempt at minimalism via bored chants. At some points it wanted to be a psychological thriller predicated on the ambiguity of the nature of Candyman, is it real, is it in this woman's head, and than flat says Candyman is real, and than goes back at attempting ambiguity. Doesn't work. The pacing was questionable and the characters were mostly, just there.

I really wish people would stop using a film's classic status as a sort of enabling thing. Often films gain such status as a result of cultural relevancy and not overall quality. It's a perfect alignment of internal factors, dat idea, line, character, and its release date. Than it becomes ingrained in cultural consciousness, and entrusted a status that legally enforces you t be blind to its faults. Candyman just isn't a very well written film at the end of the day.

Officially Canadian for 26 years. Never heard "aboot."

Thanks for that analysis Mark Kermode!!

I didn't really understand your comment, maybe leave the impressive multi-syllabic words alone, and try to talk like a normal person?..
So you didn't like this movie? I didn't see any conflicting themes, the acting was great, it's a story that goes back the slavery, and makes complete sense to me.. 9/10

People today are then are two different types. Movies that require good attention spans, usually are not respected today. Or maybe it's because more coward racists feel safe enough to come out the crevices since the creation of the internet. LMAO! But whatever the reason, this movie is a classic! Worthy of greater praise.
