Bad timing?
Captain Ron was released in the US on 18 September 1992.
Wouldn't it have been better to release around early summer, not when summer is winding down and everyone is thinking back-to-school, and here comes autumn, Halloween, etc.
Maybe they finished filming in late summer 1991, and they couldn't do the editing, scoring, dubbing, etc. in less than a whole year.
Maybe it was the need to avoid the summer blockbuster competition.
I don't know what motivated their timing, but it was almost certainly non-optimal for the product.
