Question about the ending

Hey guys, quick question about how this hilarious film ended. What's the deal with Cappin' Ron looking all spiffy and cleaned-up looking while driving the boat with the new couple? Could it be an alter-ego or just him matching his attire to the speedboat?

reply

I think the Miami Vice outfit came out because it was a speed boat. Showing that Captain Ron is more shrewd than he first appears, he was sailor for a sail boat, and he was Sonny Croket for a speed boat. Wonder if he'd have a Yellow Rain slicker for someone needing a captain for their fishing trawler? :)

I think you may be overthinking Captain Ron. He probably walked by some beautiful woman selling sport jackets on some sidewalk boutique, then fell a** backwards into a new couple with a boat.

I think he just went with the current fashion after being out of the U.S. for seven years.

"They sucked his brains out!"

Agreed...like Osopestoso said it was the current fashion and Capt Ron had just returned to the US mainland after spending about 7 years in the Caribbean.

This movie was made in '92; Miami Vice had just gone off the air in '90. That show was huge at the time and had an impact on fashion attire for guys, sadly :)

The endng scene you described is exactly the way Don Johnson dressed in Miami Vice...if this link works scroll down to see a pic of Johnson & you'll see what I mean:

And remember , they were in a Miami port at the end too.

On a side note...good to see some new posts on this board...love this movie, a great fun, family flick. Its held up over the years very well.

Did anyone stop to think that maybe Captain Ron was a little bit of a con-artist? I mean the fact that he says he captained the Saratoga seems like a bit of a stretch...
