DVD quality

I bought the UK DVD and was wondering why the quality seems to be degraded at certain points? During night scenes, it seems to have VHS qualities about it. Was this taken from a VHS and then put to DVD?

I know it's official, since I bought it new from Play.com. How is the US DVD?

I have a standard DVD of Capt Ron I bought here in the US several years ago. On my old DVD player the image is not much better then a VHS tape like you said.

I recently bought a a Blu Ray player with the ability to up-convert standard DVD's to near HD quality. Now Capt Ron looks great! The colors, the Caribbean water, etc. all look crystal clear and sharp.

That being said, it still isn't as brilliant and crisp as a new Blu Ray DVD, but darn good just the same.

Good luck

HDMI upscaling (can be doubled on a PS3) is a great thing to tempt you in to watching some of your DVDs again. I can imagine a movie like Captain Ron, Into the Blue etc looking very good with a lot of ocean scenes.

PlayStation 3 is my *only* Blu-ray player. Much like how PlayStation 2 used to be my only DVD player back around 2001.
