Portman Yay or nay.

Title says it all. What are you thinking?

reply

A soft nay. Would have rather seen a more original choice, and a native Brit, and there's the sense of dread that this will be another watered-down Hollywood version, but... they could do much worse of course. I actually think she will suit the character, if she can pull off a convincing accent. As long as they don't make her also play the 2nd generation Cathy (shudder).

I feel like there's a lot more riding on who plays Heathcliff and Nelly, actually, at least for me.

I kind of agree with you. I think we could have done a lot worse, but i would have preferred a Brit, but if she can hold the accent down.... I actually think she's either going to nail this or her performance will be similar to her one in The Other Boleyn Girl, there is a lot riding on Heathcliff, but there always was anyway. We'll see. So mine would be a preety sofy nay, with an option of a yay.

Nay. That girl's overrated. I'm sure she'll do fine. I'd rather see someone less mainstream, though. I saw someone suggested Jessica Biel: There's no way I could take the movie seriously with her playing Cathy...or any other character. :)

A very cautious yay, I suppose.

I would prefer a British actress to play Cathy, but I think Natalie has the talent to pull it off, and she also seems to fit looks-wise. So I guess I'm OK with her casting.

Can you believe that some of the Portman fans have been bashing Wuthering Heights saying they don't want her to do it, despite the fact most of them admit to not having read the book. If you haven't read the book, you don't have an opinion!! Please, Wuthering Heights is an eternally loved masterpiece of english literature. The real question is whether Natalie is good enough for Wuthering Heights, because the role of Cathy has taken down better actresses than her. We'll have to wait and see how she does.

reply

I agree. Cathy is potentially a great role and I don't see how it could hurt her career - unless she doesn't live up to it, but I hope she will.

But to each their own, I guess.

I've just seen Natalie in Other Boley Girl, I think she was very good, and she has potential to become good Cathy.

I hope she dosent emulate that bland presences in like in the other Boylan or got for bit hopfully she not anything like the charcter in star wars. I liked as the smart street wise kid in Leon and the morden tempraces in Hotel Chavler.
She seems far better at mordern smart spunkey heriones.

Hopfully she will be able to cauture that childish mysteristum, and sexually that Cathy has. Even though the 1978 verion is cheesy as hell is it the most accurate to the book the actors seem to fit the books the description most.

The thing that anoys me about is that they allways say they will try to find some unknowen brit, but due to the funding and markebltiy they will allways go with the bigger name as it two much of a risk. There plenty of good surgestion
for young actress on the other boads.

euch, this thread is riddled with spelling errors, including the title, so no comment.

Darthette. Thank you for pointing out my spelling error. However, i think your response was a tad aggressive and, frankly, unattractive. There is no spell checker available and i type very fast and often don't realise what i've put.

It's funny that you would be so concerned with spelling. You are after all on the board for a book who's author was famously an abominable speller. Don't believe me? Take a look at Emily's diary papers, especially ones from when she was around 16 - 20+

Could you not just politely point out that the title of the thread was spelt incorrectly? That wouldn't have been hard. You didn't have to refuse to comment. That was rude.
