In The Entire History Of Real Courtroom Cases

Has a witness ever had a melodramatic meltdown and confessed to a crime?

The acting is great and the speeches are memorably quotable. Unfortunately, the characters do not behave as real people do. In this respect, the movie is too much like one of those episodes of the old Perry Mason TV show where someone on the witness stand suddenly shrieks "I killed him! He had it coming! I'm glad I did it!"

That's the flaw in this movie.

I was lead detective in a rape case for which the was on the stand during cross.

The defense began a line of questioning and the victim began crying. Out of the blue, the victim blurted out that she was lying and that it was consensual.

She apologized to her father and somehow forgot to say anything to the defendant. She was ultimately charged with a couple of offenses and the defendant sued her for which an out of court settlement was reached.

**Side note**

We literally begged the DA to not bring the case to court. It was an election year, go figure.

This happened the summer before college. The defendant was a rising freshman with an academic scholarship. The defendant was not able to make bail b/c of the parents financial situation. Defendant sat in jail awaiting trial.
