Sorry if this is a daft question, but earlier on it clearly showed him leaving the pendant at Andrea's apartment.

So when he saw it in the cave at the end, I'm assuming she put it there after the incident at the amusement park. was it like her way of saying ''I'm still alive, but it'll never work'' ?
