How did Phantasm get his powers? SPOILER

Looks like supernatural origin but she acts like it's not. Is she a superhuman? If she was a regular human with tech, how did she obtain them? The movie explained nothing at all.

reply

I thought it was tech based.

reply

I thought so too because usually Batman the animated series doesn't deal with superpower or the supernatural.

But what kind of tech did she use? Looks like teleportation... that's almost too outlandish even for a cartoon Batman. If it just a hologram how did she bring Joker with her? So it was almost certainly teleportation.

Where did she get this stuff? She's rich but it's a teleportation device, man... even the Waynes couldn't afford that.

reply

Has to be a normal human or else she wouldn't have had trouble defeating Joker at the end.

reply

To be fair, even Batman usually has trouble defeating Joker. And he's Batman. Joker was just almost always depicted like that.

reply

Yeah but Batman isn't superpowered. You were asking if Andrea was superpowered or supernatural. Which if she was Joker would have been dead cause he has no chance against superpowered beings.

reply

Fair enough. Now how did she teleport if she's not supernatural? Did she invent her own teleportation device? Why the movie never touch anything about this is beyond me.

Is there any other source beside the animated movie? Like comicbooks maybe? I tried googling about Andrea Beaumont but it seems she's not even canon. So information about how she can do what she does is very limited.

reply

I think she used misdirection, sleigh of hand, optical illusions, and was gadget-based. I feel she had a lot in common with Batman in her approach and motivation (just took it darker and father than he would), which for me gave the story the added weight necessary.

reply

I don't think she did teleport. Just that she got out fast. Plus she used that cloud of smoke to slip away unnoticed.

reply

Yeah, that sounds about right to me; actually, I never considered teleportation (I mean, I have for me, but not Ms. Phantasm:-).

reply

It a shame the movie didn't give a liiiitle bit more about Ms. Phantasm.

She's really interesting and I think she's the strong woman character Hollywood needs, not the ones they churned out. Like you said, she has alot in common with Batman but not end up being female Batman, aka Batwoman.

She's a litle bit more evil than Batman, but not as insane as Joker. Basically she's in between both of them.

But yeah, I wish they would explore more on this character in other movies or comics. Even better if it's live action Andrea Beaumont. I fancast Elizabeth Debicki as her.

reply

I agree that it would be nice to have her character expanded on, instead of it being a one-and-done kind of deal; there's plenty of time to rectify that oversight:-).
