Miklo's ranking (mild spoilers)

Ok, maybe I should've paid better attention to the movie or I missed something but I have a question. Now, it is my understanding that the main Onda members we see throughout the film are Captains and members of the "inner circle" and each one commands their own soldiers. They also state that in order to become an Onda member, one must kill a rival gang member (BGA or Aryan Brotherhood), and in Miklo's case since he looked White, they gave him someone difficult (Big Al) so that he can truly earn his entry into La Onda. Now, since Miklo successfully killed Big Al, did he right away become a captain upon killing Big Al, or was he just a direct right hand man for Montana? Miklo does sit in the "inner circle" after he completes his mission but I seriously doubt they would move him up the ranks so quickly and promote him to Captain regardless of how difficult his target was. Anyone care to shed some light on this because I'm a little confused.
