why did Bonafide give Popeye a pass?

Question for those who have seen the movie more than twice.

When Miklo goes to prison... the whites are the top group, the Blacks second and the Mexicans third.

Reinforced by the order in which they are served meals.

How can Popeye openly disrespect the leader of BGA by publicly saying that he should give his "comb" to one of his B's?

Especially after he just told Miklo how dangerous that BGA was?

Even with the policy with Red Rider that Popeye, why would the leader of
Black group let that slide?

reply

"I got no problem, brother"

Popeye had the illest voice

Besides he probably knew Popeye was full of *beep* or had already done business with him and didn't take him seriously.

Popeye is clearly of Afro-Latin decent via Sammy Sosa, Tego Calderon, Felix Trinidad. Why would BGA hava a problem with someone clearly part black?

reply

@pugilist

nah..being afro-latino didn't mean anything to Bonafide...

in the story and in real life...everything is based on group affiliation....you are EITHER one or the other...

Mikklo, for example....he identified and affiliated himself with Latino group..even though like Popeye he was clearly a mixture of two groups

I think the real answer to the question is that.....popeye was a clown..a known clown..nobody took him seriously

he insulted Bonafide in front of Mikklo to show what kind of tough guy he was..
