There was a proposed sequel called The Dam.

A number of years ago I read that there was going to be a Cliffhanger sequel called The Dam. I don't know what the storyline was going to be but I saw an interview with Stallone around 1999 or 2000 where he claimed he turned it down because he didn't care to do a film in that type of environment again. He often cites Rambo III and Cliffhanger as the most dangerous action films he's ever made.

And I remember leading up to Cliffhanger, Stallone kept going on about how he was afraid of heights. If an actor was truly bothered by heights I'm not so sure how they could star in a movie like Cliffhanger and do most of their own stunts. Although certain scenes were shot in a studio such as when Gabe and Jesse are using that old rope which is close to breaking.

Yeah, I remember reading about it around 1994-5. Apparently TriStar really wanted to do it, but I don't know how, with Carolco being in a really bad shape back then. It was supposed to be about terrorists taking over Hoover Dam.

Good action movies like Cliffhanger dont need sequels. This movie is a classic! I'll watched it over 100 times and im pretty sure i'll watch it another 100 times before i died.

They always try to milk a few more bucks if they think they can get away with it.

Put a different writer and director than the first one on it and I'd watch it. Otherwise, no way.
Cliffhanger: 4.5/10

No way, this is Harlin's best movie and one of the best action movies of the 90's.

Harlin sucks big time. His only good movie is Long Kiss Goodnight and even it has its Harlin moments.

I feel sorry for you that you can't see the greatness of Cliffhanger.

reply

Thank you. It would be nice if I liked it. Liking things is more edifying. It would be great if every movie was good, every meal delicious, and all people beautiful. I envy those who like every single movie they see.

reply

I like you, but you're crazy.

Stallone was really big into pushing he envelope and his limitations, just like Cruise. I could totally see him taking this movie despite a fear of heights.

The Dam sounds like it may have included elements that ended up in Daylight.
