Why did Christopher Walken leave the movie?

Did he not like the script or Stallone or Harlin or was it something else? Maybe he didn't want to do an English accent :)

Not that Lithgow was bad, but I think Walken would've made an even better Qualen.

Has Christopher Walken ever done a physical role in his career?

A View to a Kill...sort of.

The Vietnam scenes in The Deer Hunter were pretty physical which involved Walken. But then again that was in 1978 and Cliffhanger wasn't until 93. Maybe the idea of filming a majority of a film up in the mountains didn't sound too appealing.

Ain't know one better than lithgow!!

"Has Christopher Walken ever done a physical role in his career?" He's a trained dancer who has danced on broadway, jazz and classical, what's your idea of a 'physical role' idiot

reply

Has he ever danced with the devil in the pale moon light

Lithgow was perfect. Brilliant one-liners, and surprised me with the fightscene at the end. I know its only acting, but it was weird seeing him go toe to toe with Stallone

reply

Except that it was weird seeing Stallone beat up an old man who was saying things like 'Now we've just got each other!' (I think Stallone actually bites him in response to that rather intimate line).

reply

Hahaha.

I love his lines. They're cheesy and funny, but suit his psychopath character really well.

Walken was supposed to be the original Qualen?

reply

Yes, no idea why he left though. Lithgow was then cast at the last minute.

reply

I knew Lithgow was a last minute hire. Didn't know the story behind it though. Thanks
