The birth scene: Beldar biting umbilical cord?

I used to watch this movie quite a bit on the pay cable channels back when it came out. I could swear that the birth scene was slightly different than it is on DVD.

The scene as it appears on the DVD: The baby is born, the doctor asks Beldar if he would like to cut the umbilical cord, Beldar nods, takes off his mask, smiles, and then they cut to a nurse fainting as you hear a crunch sound.

The scene as I remember it: The baby is born, the doctor asks Beldar if he would like to cut the umbilical cord, Beldar nods, takes off his mask, smiles, and then leans forward as he opens his mouth in preparation to bite the cord, then you see the nurse faint as you hear a crunch sound.

I know it's a subtle different, but without the extra shot of him leaning forward and opening his mouth, there's no actual indication that he did anything strange. The crunch sound could just be him using scissors to cut the cord. Which makes the scene of the nurse fainting kind of pointless.

Does anyone else remember this? I'm not sure I ever saw the extended version back then and YouTube wasn't around in the 90s, so it's not like I could have viewed any deleted scenes there. It was always clear to me that he bit the cord rather than cutting it, but as presented on the DVD, there's absolutely nothing to suggest that he actually did bite it.
