Rating

This movie should NOT be a 4.9. That's just ridiculous. This movie is a classic and hilarious. There are so many cameos. That alone should give it a 6.0 rating. I'm not sure why there are people out there giving this a low rating. The story is great, and the acting solid. I think they just don't get it...

I can understand why it might have gotten a 4.9 rating.

I think that the only way you can really understand the humor in this movie is if you were a fan of the sketch. This movie came out around 20 years after SNL, so the only people who might see it and enjoy it are people who watched it in the 70's or are fans of the show. You really don't have to be born in the 70's. I mean, I'm 16, but I'm a huge fan of the original cast.

And if you look at the movie, it's marketed towards teens. I think if it came out in the 80's the reactions would of been extremely different.

That's just my opinion. I gave this movie a 7. It's incredibly dumb, but it's just too funny.

What the hell? who let that guy in?

i'm afraid i missed the entire 70's phenomena and most of the 80's, on account of not being born and being a kid, respectively, but this movie is great.

it seems like something fresh and origional to a post mellenium audience.

4.8 really is kind of low. I think a high 5 to low 6 is about where it should be.

My 2 cents

You're right. This is a classic. When I mention it to most people. they look a little confused and dismissive, but I think it will stand the test of time. I didn't get to see the original sketches on SNL, so that's not why I'm a fan, but saw the movie a few years after it came out. There's so much great talent in it.

This is definitely a classic. I'm 35 and was never into the SNL skit, but love the movie. 7.0 baby!

I agree with carsongs that this movie deserves a better rating, but I don't agree with RIPBelushi, at least not fully, in the statement that some viewers are too young to know about the Coneheads bits on the old SNL. A movie, almost always, is either internally good or not. This film (of course) actually provides a lot more context for the Cs--who they are, where they come from, how they eat, mate, etc. The old SNL bits were great and so is this movie--maybe not FARGO great but great as a way of chuckling for about 90 minutes on a rainy day.

I like Ebert a lot, but I regularly disagree with his ratings. He gave this film, I think, a 1 1/2 star rating, and that just isn't fair. He assumed, I guess, that this was merely a cheap knockoff to cash in on something a significant part of the viewing public knew something about. It probably is that, but it's much more--a charming, funny, goodhearted (not to mention family-friendly) light comedy/sci fi movie. Compare it to almost any light comedy today, in the 2010s, and it looks very good indeed. And it's also fun to see so many cameos by everyone from Adam Sandler (who has scarcely been in anything better to date), Drew Carey, the late great Phil Hartman, the great (still living) Dave Thomas, and a host of early '90s SNL actors. Dan Aykroyd is the star, and he is in fine form, but the whole cast is fun, and so is the silly story.

I gave it an 8, though that was to balance out the weak 6. It's in reality a low 7 or so. I will watch this movie again and I WILL ENJOY IT.

Actually Just saw this film last night and think a 5 is just about the right Rating for Coneheads which is what I gave it.

The film is a little silly but not the worst I have ever seen.
They are much worse out there.
