One of my favorites

This is probably the best SNL spin-off movie by a large degree and on many levels. Sure its funny but its the intelligent well written social commentary that completely takes you by surprise. At its heart, the movie is about American immigrants and the difficulties in assimilations and the efforts they make to be a part of the society. The message is optimistic in that despite all the difference, America will take in well meaning strangers.

Its unfortunate that the movie did not do well and has such a low rating here. America has not been a welcoming country since the 70s and has actually been locking down the borders for the last 30 years. Believe it or not, there was once a time where people in the country considered the nation a shelter and refuge for the poor and persecuted of other countries. Now, Americans readily think of the nation as the capital of a global empire with the license to exploit these same peoples. The message in this movie is no longer a message that the country wants to hear or, perhaps, can even understand anymore.

The low ratings are understandable. It is the result of a million irritated 12 year olds expecting toilet humor only to be slapped hard in the face by intelligence.
