Is this the greatest "hang out" movie of all time?

I never tire of this movie. I watch it probably once or twice a year and have seen it well over twenty times, and I never get bored with it.

It's just one of those enjoyable movies where you get to 'hang out' with the characters; there's no purpose, plot, suspense, or anything that requires thinking. It's just an all around 'fun' movie despite the underlying gloominess and teen angst.

The nostalgia component can't be overstated either; I grew up in the 90s and even I find it nostalgic.

Absolutely, I have seen this movie numerous times and I could never tire of it. Nostalgia is what does it for me.

I think that nails it, right there. I do feel like I'm hanging out with these characters. They suck me right into their conversations so much so that I find myself nodding along at times. Excellent performances all around, especially by Adam Goldberg. I have never felt more connected to a character than I have with Mike, and a lot of it was thanks to Goldberg and the way he delivered those lines.

The day Chuck Norris dies is the day the world ends.

I've always found it, even upon release, to be a great companion piece to "American Graffiti". If you haven't seen that, please check it out and share your thoughts.

Btw, whatever influence "Graffiti" had on this film shouldn't be derided. They are both great movies and perfectly capture the times they are depicting. They both captured lightning in a bottle with their extensively talented casts.

I've watched it twice in 2 days - it never gets old on my books and is definitely one of the best films ever made. As you say, the characters just suck you in completely and it's as if you are there with them. No other movie has had this effect on me where I am fully satisfied with evdry single second of the film. I am already missing it and just finished watching it an hour ago. Best film of the 90's for sure.

In terms of 90's films, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction, Silence of the Lambs, Jurassic Park, Heat, Reservoir Dogs, Shawshank Redemption, Casino, LA Confidential, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler's List are tons better. Need I go on? Like I said, you need to get out more. I REALLY wanted to like this film, and even watched it twice(edited the 1st time), but I liked just a few scenes. Mitch and Sabrina(both lousy actors)really brought the film down a peg for me. I think it needed a central character, someone more interesting than Mitch.

I watch this a couple times a year as well, and never gets old. There's no coherent plot but I grin through the whole movie every time bc as you said it's just hanging out with a bunch of likeable characters.

Yep. Exactly. I lived these same nights in the summer growing up. You hit the nail on the head...it's like hanging out when you watch it

I remember being a teenager and watching this. I'm in my 30s now and I still watch it at least once a year. I'll never get tired of it. It makes me feel so good when I watch it, so happy.
