Raptor "chick" hatching from egg

IMO this is by far the worst effect in the movie. Why didn't they do a better job with it?

No idea what you're talking about. It was very well done.

Let's be bad guys.

It was good. The fact teh OP put no thought into explaining his complaint makes it a very good chance he's just trolling.

Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that I'll be over here looking through your stuff.

It was 1993.

reply

Seriously. Until someone sold Spielberg on the potential of the burgeoning CGI technology, those parts of the film were going to be claymation.

reply

Lol I heard about that claymation idea...Spielberg did ET like a decade before and he wanted to bring it back to claymation??? Hahahaha even in Robocop, the claymation or stop-motion looked freaky and cheesy but was okay for robots since they are stiff anyway.

reply

It looks great. What are you talking about? I think the "worst" effect is the Brachiosaurus. And that looks still good, even though it's 23 years old.

reply

hahah I like the "chick" description, I mean, I guess that's accurate since they are ancestors of birds anyway. But yeah, when the movie was new, I loved the chick scene, but I rewatch it now and it's got the dead puppet eyes.

reply

Actually, call me crazy... I think the stampede or herd of dinosaurs running and brontosauruses being cgi, looked the least impressive. But it was still amazing compositing.

reply

I have to be honest with you, I don't actually know what you mean, I though the egg hatching scene was terrifically done and when Grant is holding it in his hands, I can't see anything that makes it look robotic. It looks like a genuine baby dinosaur that's just hatched out of an egg.

reply

Actually i think the effects in this scene are pretty good considering it was 1993. The only thing that has bothered me in this scene is the LAZY EDITING. I mean.. one second the robot arm is around the egg and then bam! Its gone.... This still annoys me to this day, how did they not notice this? Or did they think we we would be so distracted by the raptor in the egg we wouldn't notice it!? Grrrrrrrr

reply

I think it's pretty damn good.
