neck frill

The dilophosaurus opening the neck frill is not realistic for what would happen. If it had a neck frill, the frill would be used for attracting mates or scaring away predators. It wouldn't be used as hunting behavior.

Artistic licence.

For within each death there is always a new life, a new beginning - Dillon, Alien 3

reply

Not necessarily. It spits venom into the eyes. The frill could work as a way to get either a prey or predator to look directly at it so the spit will hit right in the eyes.

Even spitting cobras puff up their hoods when they spit.

You are sin.

I thought of something. Maybe the reason it put out it's frill was to get the guy to look at it so it would be able to spit the venom in his eyes easier. Maybe that species is supposed to do that in the movie.

reply

Maybe that's the reason it made the noise too.

reply

Yeah. It's amazing how you totally thought of that right after I told you about it. 

You are sin.

reply

As has been said - if it's good enough for a spitting cobra, it's good enough for a dilophosaurus.

reply

I also thought it was because they had been using other species to fill in the gene gaps. I think I read somewhere that Dilopha had frilled lizzard in it. Hence the fril around its neck.

reply

Or rather, it could have potentially had frilled lizzard DNA in it among other possible gene fill ins. It's like they say in Jurassic World, the dinosaurs never were pure clones, hence the varations when matched to real fossil record.(well and of course, movie magic artistic license!)

reply

They say it in JP, too. Frog DNA, if other stuff wasn't add, could have caused a lot of changes.
