I've just realised something, Hammond actually saves Tim's life....

Due to the power being out, Hammond fetches the melting ice cream from the freezer and accidentally leaves the door open, thus allowing Tim to run into the freezer and escape the raptor later on in the film.

I'm more inclined to say the icy, slick floor is what saved Tim's life. It is entirely plausible that it was Hammond who left the door open though, since it was clearly him pigging out on ice cream the night before.
