Anyone else didn't cry at the end of this movie?

I didn't...sniff...I swear

I did not actually cry but man it was sad, but you know what was REALLY SAD? The boy would have been better off if his "kidnapper" had successfully escaped and raised him which he might have done. He would have made a better parent than the boy's mother. She was a JAHOVA'S WITNESS. I have a passionate hatred for Jahova's witnesses. I think they are almost the lowest form of human life, one very small step above the radical Muslims who attacked us in 2001 and stone people to death for adultery. They are STUPID, INSANE and not deserving of any respect and if I lived in the fictional world of this movie AND got to meet that boy's mother I would tell her such. Jahova's witnesses should not even be allowed to procreate. If we lived in a world where one had to have a license to have children (like the movie Starship Troopers) I would want being a Jahova's Witness to be automatic grounds for not being granted such a license.

That poor boy will now have to grow up with that stupid, butt ugly, white trash, INSANE Jahova's Witness mother and THAT is the real tragedy. With a little luck child protective services will declare that ball busting bitch to be an unfit parent and take her children away.

Like you I thought the movie was sad and I think it was asking you whether Butch could have been/ was a father figure for Phillip.

I think the film was also arguing for a little more tolerance for convicts and suggesting some such as Butch, may have positive aspects to their personalities, as well as darker sides.

What I don't think it was intending to do was trash Jehova Witness adherents.

Put aside all your personal beliefs about the religion. You have a single mother raising three children on her own, fifty years ago when the social security safety net wasn't as supportive as it arguably is now. She wasn't trash, nor a bitch, nor an unfit parent; nor did she ask her son to be kidnapped from her.

The film introduced the religious element to allow Butch to assist Phillip to enjoy aspects of mainstream life that he'd never had the opportunity to do so before, (but had inwardly wanted to).

You'd be very mistaken creator if you thought the film was condemning the mother, or the religion itself.

@mavrick721 It was sad when Phillip ran back to Butch, because then you knew that he really wanted to stay with him, but there was no way that was going to happen.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to find out who here is cutting those onions.

I have never cried so hard at any film ever. Over 20 years ago and I still can hardly bring myself to even think about it.
