Timing Qyestion.

Saw this again this weekend, my 15-yr old wanted to watch "old school" movies, and one of the things that always bugged me about this great movie is the timing. If the modern part of the movie takes place when it was made in 1993, that's 31 years after the rest of the movie which means Bennie would have been in his mid 40s. Now a MLB player at that age is believable, althopugh rare, but not one that would still have the speed to be used to pinch run and then given the green light to steal home. Plus, the actor who played the older Bennie looks about 30, no where near 45ish. Just a small detail I know but one that I always questioned. If would have been more accurate to have established that the modern era part of the movie was set in 1983 to coincide with the '62 part.

Rickey henderson stole 31 bases when he was 41 years old and 25 when he was 42. I'm guessing Benny was 11 or 12 when the movie took place so the 31 years would put him right about where Rickey was when he was still a decent source of stolen bases.

Ricky Henderson was a freak of nature and played baseball until he was like 60. He broke Lou Brock's record in 91 or 92 and played another ten years. He's wasnt the average 42 year old.

Unless Benny was juiced up on steroids, he wouldnt even be in the league anymore at 43.

So then neither was Benny.

Can't stop the signal.

They dont say what year it is in the "present day" so you can just assume it was in the early 80s or something.

His nickname was "the Jet", so he was known for his speed. They even mentioned that some say he's "lost a step" over the years, so this was not a common occurrence. Also, check out this list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_oldest_Major_League_Baseball_play ers

lol these people....

I don't think Benny was doing it every night. It's just that special moment at the end of his career doing something extraordinary. The whole movie is basically about enjoying the simple things and doing the extraordinary.

If you couldn't tell from watching this....Benny is basically one of the best ball-players of all-time.
