Okay so I was watching this movie for the umpteenth time with my family and I just laugh at Squints lusting after Wendy. He looked all of about 11 or 12 and she had to be at least 16 or 17. At the end, he ends up marrying her, owning the drugstore and having 9 kids....

shareI get what you're saying, and also found it hilarious. Both when he ambushed her, and how he raced off when she was about to kill him, and his goofy-lovey reaction peering at her through the fence after he was safely off the property and she was back up in her lifeguard stand,
FYI, if you're a fan of the far too short-lived series Freaks and Geeks, this actor plays the bully Alan White who terrorizes the geeks.
(and his character very nearly kills one of the geek characters trying to prove the kid's peanut allergy was fake.)
Maybe there wasn't a big age difference between them. I think it is supposed to be funny that they married after what Squints did to her at the pool.

They even say in the movie that "we were banned forever from the pool that day but every time we walked by, Wendy would look down from her tower at Squintz and smile" or something like that. Yeah she was horrified by the situation when it happened but at the same time I am sure she would have been flattered that this little pipsqueak would have the guts to even attempt that move.

So he's like 18 and she's like 23... entirely plausible. Usually it's the man going after the younger woman but it's not uncommon to see the other way around. He probably married her when he was like 22-23 and she would've been 27-28. Completely normal. If they got busy she'd be 4-5 kids by her early 30s. Can still keep going. Late 30s and up gets risky but women do it all the time.
Maybe Benny was at the end of his career (late 30s) at that point or the narrator was just foreshadowing all of their lives at some point.
