The Mother was Pure Evil

Surprised no one has mentioned this.

Tina's mother was horrible. Not only does she abandon her as a child, but she uses Ike for money, let's him buy her a house, then rats her own daughter out so Ike can find her- even though she knew he was beating her- EVERYONE in the clique knew. And her only excuse to her daughter: "He's just being a man." Disgusting. I wonder if the real Tina Turner ever spoke to her mother again after that.

The movie blended fact and fiction. From what I have read and seen in documentaries, her mother wasn't a gold digger. To my knowledge Tina very much cared for her mother. I watched a documentary from the 80's which her mother and sister were interviewed for. I have to dig up the clip on YouTube if it's still there. The documentary went into a lot of detail about Tina's early life that I haven't seen in anything else about her.

The abandoning thing happened, and the sister got left too but as I remember from the book there was a good reason for it. And the whole thing about her ratting her out to Ike never happened.
