Why No Academy Award Nomination?

I noticed that this documentary racked up basically ALL the critics awards, but it wasn't even nominated for an Academy Award. Why? There has to be some sort of "technical" reason.

Probably because it is about an eclectic underground artist. Even though he is now more well known and times have changed, his stuff is still out there on the edge.

I'd say because a lot of people don't know who R. Crumb is. Like Crumb himself the movie wasn't 'commercial' enough.

My theory is that it's a boring, disgusting film about a very sick and perverted family None of them has all their oars in the water. YUCK!
