That's a good point, he might have needed it as much as his brothers.
shareI think it was this: He could draw, but it was the fact that Robert was successful at it that helped him. Getting the stuff down on paper wasn't enough for Charles and I think because Robert was successful, that spared him from the same fate that Charles had.
And we do see three lives here, Robert and his two brothers and we see how the parents affected them.
