Don't bother with this film...

if you value your time. It doesn't have a point or serve any purpose other than to waste 2 hours of your life. I ended up seeing it only because it's got a high rating and was at the local library. I'm not sure what anyone hopes to get out of this film other than to pretend you're a "cultured" sophist, but if you enjoy movies that either entertain or better you somehow, skip this one.

I watched it because David Lynch was a producer
I ended up enjoying and being depressed by it all at the same time

reply

Okay, I shall skip your review.

obviously people enjoyed this film. i've watched it several times and always end up noticing something new. the honesty of everyone in it is pretty remarkable. it has nothing to do with pretending to be "cultured." it isn't a particularly complex film unless you care to analyze it and dig deeper. you could easily just watch the movie and enjoy it because of the unusual people in it.
telling others to not watch the film is like saying "don't even form your own opinion about this film. just believe mine."

I first watched it because I am a big fan of R. Crumb's work. I ended up finding a treasure in this movie. Hearing the stories and actually seeing the family life that Crumb came from goes a long way in explaining many of hte disturbing themes that come up in his work.

Maybe you're not a fan of comics, or of documentaries, or of depressing stories, but plenty of other people are. Beyond all of those factors, I think that anyone who has an interest in the human condition and in seeing things in humanity that we often aren't shown because they aren't "pretty" or "happy" enough to show in the MSM would enjoy this film.

*beep* This movie is good. I've rented it 5 times.

If anyone is a Robert Crumb fan or into underground comics, watch this film. It won't waste your time.

the op doesnt really say anything relevant to the movie itself. i love this movie.

I'm glad somebody made a movie of one of my favorite artists and it has Crumb's own blessing to boot. Fascinating story of how siblings cope differently with a highly dysfunctional upbringing and the honesty of Crumb on expressing all levels of the mind is very refreshing. It is a depressing story, but it tells of a part of American family life that many are familiar with but few talk about with such candor.

Pretend you're a "cultured sophist?" Do you even know what a sophist is?
