The Bruegel of the Late 20th Century

I remember an interviewee from this film saying that Crumb was the Breugel (http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/bruegel/) of the Late 20th Century. He also said that the Early 20th didn't have a Breugel. Wouldn't Paul Cadmus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Cadmus) qualify?

Yes, I believe he would. Although I think that Robert Hughes, who made the remark about Brueghel, was making the point that not only the style, but the range and scope of Crumb's work was comparable to that of Brueghel. Paul Cadmus' work, while similar in topic, covers a more limited range of topics. But that's just my opinion.
