Then can Simba still take his place as king when he got older? Even if he didn't die??

I think Mufasa might've gotten too old to be king by then so he would've passed his title of king to Simba.

Of course. Monarchical kings can abdicate their throne for whatever reason they desire. I'm sure the monarchical political system in the film works the same way.

Mufasa would have to be dead for his son to take the place as king.

Nope I don't think so through i bet at some point i bet that Mufasa would have known when it was his time as king to be over and Simba's time to be king would begin.
