What happened to the clouds?!

Those big thunderous clouds that fill the sky after Mufasa's spirit disappears into them with Simba racing after him are no longer on the latest DVD/Blu Ray edition. I don't understand why they removed those clouds because those were a majestic addition to Mufasa's departure and what we're left of Simba racing towards the clear sky looks less powerful because it makes Simba look like he's running mad and Rafiki's exclamation about the weather less understandable. That was one of the most stunning shots from what I saw in the theater and the VHS edition as it evoked the presence of a god and the removal robbed that scene of an epic vanishing shot.

It was done for the 3D theatrical release for sure, in which the same print was transferred onto the Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack. According to one comment below on a YouTube video showing the edit comparisons, the 3D stereoscopic production team had difficulties converting the retreating clouds into 3D and they were taken out. Yeah, I always guessed it was intentional. Still, it dampens the emotional effect of the scene a tiny bit without it, though. Not a dealbreaker, but I guessed it had something to do with the 3D conversion.

That's still a BS excuse with today's technology. Oh well, least it wasn't due to some stupid minority group complaining.

I guess they'll fix it when it gets rereleased on Blu-Ray. Here's to hoping.
