I have to admit I'm a bit confused by his character.

It's clear in the video store scene that he likes Muriel a lot because of the way he interacts with her and the fact that he rents so many videos, but the scene in the apartment seems like all he wants to do is have sex with her. At least that's how I felt based on the way he was frantically ripping her clothes off. Not to say that they shouldn't have sex, but I found his manner of doing so strange, like he had something to prove by having sex with a girl or something.
Then they don't see each other again for presumably weeks-months and he shows up to her wedding?? When I saw him there I thought the writers put him in there because then Muriel would realize her mistake and go back to dating him, but this never happens. It's possible this happens after the movie ends, but it seems strange to add him to the wedding when that's the last we see of him.

Also, did anyone else find the apartment scene with the bean bag a bit weird? Why was she laughing so much?

He was just bursting with the knowledge he was about to have sex with a women he genuinely really liked.

Have you never had a man? or a man thats never been over excited.

Only those with no valid argument pick holes in peoples pelling and grammar. 

I thought it was a brilliant scene. He was highly attracted towards her...and horny. She was inexperienced and couldn't quite believe it, and had a fit of the giggles....especially when the American sailors walked in completely naked and it all became surreal to her.
