Do you think people are just nostalgic about this show?

Sometimes, I see reviews saying this could have been (or that it actually was) one of the greatest pieces of sci-fi on television and there are many calls for a reboot. However, on re-watching season one (considered one of the better seasons), most of the episodes are fairly average although there are a couple of highlights.
I liked the characters for the most part but many episodes are repetitive, especially when it comes to politics and/or political factions fighting with each other.

So what do actual fans of the show think or those old enough to remember it?

I've only seen it quite recently so I have no nostalgia towards the show and I also think it has an absolutely brilliant premise. Like "Quantum Leap" or "Doctor Who" it was a show that could do anything and go anywhere - be any genre in any style. I'd love a really ambitious and smart reboot. But I do agree that most of the actual episodes are average at best.

Thanks for the reply. Its interesting to come across "new fans" of the show since its a show that has largely been forgotten and most of the people that talk about it on MC are old fans with nostalgia goggles on. If you dont mind me asking, where did you discover it? I agree, the show had a great premise and a great dynamic of cast members but many episodes were poorly/averagely written. I watched the show sporadically as a guilty pleasure in high school although I was never a die hard fan but did re-watch the first 4 series many years later. Im going to post a summary/brief review of season one when I finish completing it, if you are interested in reading.

I think I just ran across it while browsing IMDb and liked the premise. I'm a fan of JRD anyway so I gave it a watch. The first two seasons were a lot of fun even if they never reached the steady quality of "Quantum Leap". After that they began resembling cheap knockoff movies so I stopped watching around season 4. I'd definitely check out a reboot or a remake. The original cast was really quite good.

RE:reboot. I saw John Rhys-Davies said he would do it if they got the original group for 2 more seasons with an eye to building a new cast to continue the show but I honestly don´t see that happening. He and Cleavant are in their 70s while JOC is 48 and Sabrina 51. Id definitely watch a reboot with the original cast just to bring closure to their characters though, even if it were 2 seasons max.

All I have is nostalgia since I haven't watched the show since 95. I learned to avoid revisiting most TV shows I liked as a kid.

I should have worded it a bit better. I meant having a nostalgic bias towards it. Like seeing it in a better light because they were fans way back when.

I'll blame myself for the because I read it exactly as you intended. To your point, I believe people do look at this with memberberries. As a horror buff, I've been fooled into a lot of sub par remakes and I've had a lot of recommendations ridiculed because of my nostalgia bias. I was a bog fan of the cartoon Rocco's modern Life. Young kids today don't care for it.
