Kinda disappointed with the ending...

SPOILERS

I watched this show when I was a kid, so I had seen like 90% of the episodes. I just finished watching the series on Netflix, including the series finale which I hadn't seen before.

Gotta say I'm a little disappointed they didn't get to do another season. No Mary Jane reunion. Plus that really awkward scene with Stan Lee. Coulda done without that. I get the whole tongue-in-cheek wink at the audience, but seriously? Spider-Man gets to swing around with Stan Lee, but not Mary Jane? Lame.

In any case, still one of my favorite childhood cartoons, glad I got to re-watch it.

There was supposed to be a sixth season in which Spidey found Mary Jane in England during the Jack the Ripper era, and it turns out Carnage is JtR.

However Fox gave the excuse that they felt once Spider-Man saved the universe, there was really nowhere to go with the series. Also the head of Fox Kids at the time HATED Avi Arad, and wanted to put him out of business (allegedly).

That's bureaucracy for you. Yeah, I read about the England/Jack the Ripper thing, I thought that sounded pretty friggin' cool. It's a pity it never got made.

Yeah they really shouldve tied up all the loose ends, but oh well. The last 2 episodes were really good anyways. Carnage is just an awesome character. I thought secret wars was pretty bad though

Everyting was tied up, they just left the door open just in case FOX picked up more episodes. They didn't show Spider-Man kissing the girl at the end, but Madame Web was taking him to Mary Jane. If they left out that scene with Spider-Man and Madame Web in limo looking for Mary-Jane, then I would agree that the episode was not complete. It sounds to me like you was disapointed with the ending of the episode. I see it like this, the show could have gone on longer, but who knows if it would have been the same.

Agreed - leaving MJ in the void sucked and was a crappy ending to this good show.

I heard differently back in the day. I remember reading that it had to do with Marvel's bankruptcy (it happened twice in the 90s) in that the contract was for 65 episodes, and, once fulfilled, Marvel could not afford to do any more episodes. Remember, this was the one and only show produced directly by Marvel studios.

Silver Surfer was also a consequence of this too, as a second season was already in development... and the Captain Amerca cartoon they were working on got shelved.

Not only that, but Xmen ended with 70 episodes, but they negotiated another 6 with Saban... by then, Marvel was in bankruptcy proceedings and Saban ended up financing the episodes entirely by themselves from one of their own studios... which is why they look so different for the last 6. There were also plans to have character specific mini-series specials (like a 4 episode Wolverine story, a 4 episode Gambit story)... but they never panned out.

Yeah, I didn't like the Stan Lee thing either, and since this was the last episode of the series, not knowing how it got cancelled, I was expecting a resolution with MJ. Even though they did have a sixth season planned, the fact that MJ is technically left in limbo is such a downer.

Honestly if I had been in charge I would've left out the clone saga and had the Mary Jane who showed up in Season 4 be the real Mary Jane. Plus I've heard a lot of fans were turned off by the clone saga because it took so long to do. Even though the show's clone saga wasn't as convoluted as the comics it really shouldn't have been done. I don't think I ever saw season 4 as a kid since I mostly watched the reruns they showed on weekday afternoons on Fox Kids. I think if I had I probably would've bawled my eyes out when Mary Jane turns into water. But having seen the show recently I really don't like the clone saga all that much. To be honest the only clone saga I liked was the one from the 70s. Anything after that sucks imo.
But yeah. I thinks this show was ruined by the clone saga. But if it had to be done I would've just had the last 2 episodes be about getting Mary Jane out of limbo with just the Miles Warren episode being the only one having to do with the clone saga. Plus this show was rated Y-7 meaning it was made for kids 7 year old and older. I don't think the clone saga is appropriate for 7 year olds. But that's just me.

I'm not mad about it but it was less of a disappointemt that TSSM's ending.

If we look at it, Spider-Man had just saved all realities from destruction, what more could you ask? Using Uncle Ben to help defeat Spider-Carnage was a great move.

We can imagine he got to be with MJ again...

Yeah, I was alittle dissappointed with the ending myself. Really wished they'd done that Jack The Ripper storyline. Finding out Carnage was Jack The Ripper would've been epic. I also think they should've found a way to get Norman Osborn outta limbo too so we could've had one more Spiderman/Goblin final battle.

I agree. Too bad the Spider-Man Adventures comic book did not cover it. DC used Batman Adventures to cover the "lost years" in between TAS and New Adventures. Aw well. Maybe one day, or even better, an animated movie or mini-series to cover it. Animated and paced the way the 90s show always should have been. With the original voice actors would be cool, if not, still good.

Compared to Superman animated series, the drawings were quite poor as if drawn in the 80's. I found it boring on the whole to be honest
