You guys are probably gonna disagree with me on this badly. What should had happened is this. Instead of Mary Jane falling off the bridge and being sucked into the Green Goblin's inter dimension device (or whatever it's called) , she should had been knocked out and gone into a coma. That way Mary Jane was still present in Peter's life. However, she just was just in a deep sleep unaware what's going on

shareIn the comics Gwen Stacey got kidnapped and killed by Green Goblin/Norman Osborn and basically they were doing that story but with Mary Jane. By not having Mary Jane disappear it would be a screw you to the fans of that story. Which is basically what Raimi did in Spider-Man 1.
