I never got into this series.

Did I miss much?

The best episodes were the ones that involved Robert Picardo's Doctor character and Jeri Ryan's Seven character. The rest of the cast always seemed a bit wooden to me. So, if your interested in watching this series I'd recommend to start watching around season 4.

It's light entertainment. it's a fun way to pass an evening.

Difficult to say. If you liked Next Gen I'm pretty sure Voyager would work. Not many can fill the shoes of Patrick Stewart, but Kate Mulgrew's no slouch so I think she was convincing. The Doctor character provides a lot of humor with touches of humanity, Jeri Ryan is major eye candy and her character is very complicated. The Pilot is a boyish, charming rogue.
What I think is appealing about both Next Gen and Voyager is every new episode provides so many possible scenarios, traps in space, different species, different combinations of cast members. It's all so colorful and it's an easy way to spend an hour.

I would suggest you'd probably like it if you bought into the premise (lost in space). That was the thing I always liked about it; the sense of community, of getting home together, of having families and kids, of building a community.

Sadly, they never quite achieved any of that, only hinted at it.

The two crews merged too quickly, the crew didn't pair up and have kids (only at the very end), there was never any real sense of danger about the journey. Worst of all, there was never any sense that they would actually be travelling for 70 years together. I wish there had been.

I would have preferred that the show ended with them still in the Delta quadrant.

It has my favorite opening theme song out of all the series.

It's got some pretty good episodes. Voyager's A game is as good as any Trek series. But it's mostly fairly unremarkable and very repetitive. I enjoy the show cause I like the characters and it has excellent production value. It's a very noisy show though. Unlike other Trek series, this one is obnoxious to fall asleep too. Shit's always blowing up.
