When it goes into production, and they've got the actors, then you can be pretty sure it's going to happen. As long as it's in the discussion pre-production stage, anything could go wrong and shut it all down.

It seems everything is fairly close to being a go, they're just working out the details. That's all that they'll share with the public for now. Just keep an eye on Tapert & Raimi's profile pages to see if the project gets added.

Reboots are risky. They are way too common as it is and not sure Xena would be as successful. I loved the action and simplicity of it all. But I could see a reboot not measuring up and it would ruin the limited legacy...or it would be more commercial...or too preachy. Why not leave semi-well enough alone? It was a spinoff that did well enough to garner a small but very devoted fan base that allowed it to be remembered even 20 years after it came out. If there was more demand, they would have pushed this through a lot faster.

The show's not that old, and is a fantasy "period piece". Given all that, why on Earth would you want a new version with new actors?

It makes no sense whatsoever.

Currently it appears they are planning a Xena tv movie, probably a la Hercules 5 movies before that became a full series. It's probably being planned that way to see if they get the numbers to give it a go ahead. It's on both Tapert and Raimi pages as that.
