EPISODE A SOLSTICE CAROL OBSERVATION QUESTION

Solstice Carol is clearly a Christmas episode just like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (with the vampires - called "bacchae' in the show - was a Halloween. The story is modeled after A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. They call it a winter solstice because in pre Christian times that's what people celebrated at the end of the year/beginning of the new year during the longest night of the year. That being said curiously at the end of this episode Xena and Gabrielle run into a couple - a man and a woman with a baby looking very much like Joseph Mary and Baby Jesus. I assumed that they were in fact Joseph Mary and the Infant Jesus. In fact the Mary woman says "May God bless you" or something like that. This would have been, in the context of the New Testament Gospels, the part when after Jesus had been born but was still an infant, when the angel told Joseph and Mary to flee from Israel and go into Egypt to live in hiding while King Herod lived out the rest of his life. Herod wanted Jesus dead so they were not safe in Israel while he lived. They are traveling to Egypt when Xena and Gabby run into them on the road? Where exactly are they in that episode?? It's interesting to me how they seem to go back and forth through so many different time periods in the past both BC and AD. If this is supposed to be paralleling the life of Jesus they are clearly out of chronological order. They mention Julius Caesar and in a later season episode (Season 5?) The Ides of March he gets stabbed to death as it did happen in 44 BC, which was 44 years before the birth of Jesus - but not on the crazy confused timeline of Xena Warrior Princess LOL Also Xena lives a very long time because she is also around during the time King David killed the giant Goliath (King David lived many centuries before Jesus' birth). Oh God I love how they have messed with history and the Bible on this show! It's historical fiction alternate history fiction!

Exactly, a time period is any where and when.

They only appear at the end. On Hercules Iolas is one of the Wiseman and visits them at the inn.

It was a Christmas ep
