Aphrodite's Joxer

You know, I keep wishing Joxer kept the character in "For Him the Bell Tolls", which I find to be very spinoff worthy. The character just oozes confidence, charm and coolness. Imagine Xena, Gabrielle and THAT Joxer against the bad of the world. One can dream, I guess.

God no. Ted Raimi is a very limited actor and anytime he has to play cool, suave, or badass its a giant fail. The character got on my nerves even more than the regular Joxer who is suppose to be annoying.

If that Joxer had stuck around, I would have stopped watching the show.

reply

That wasn't really Joxer though. We'd be watching a brainwashed (or worse, brain-hijacked) character. That'd just be creepy. Besides, the fake Joxer was a creep himself, if I recall correctly, in how he treated women. The "I'm-so-sexy-every-woman-wants-me" personality. Yuck.

Remember when Joxer took a completely amnesiac Gabrielle and made her think he was her lover and the hero? (Forget Me not)

Remember when after Xena and Gabby were presumed dead for 25 years and he honored their deaths by taking credit for their deeds to his son?

Joxer was a creepy deluded loser

It showed what was truly in his heart. He was annoying at times but one could not fault his cause. Sort of stupid how PC it got to make him over-the-top incompetent at times when they showed female warriors all able to hold their own in combat. It was more unbelievable than the Greek Mythology after season 2. But yeah...enjoyed Joxer during that time.

What was PC about it? Oh, you're one of those idiots who just likes throwing the word PC around everytime you don't like something.

reply

Get the sand out of your vagina. It was PC because it was taking on a premise where (almost without exception) the female warriors both as main and side characters were superior to the males, became more anti-religious as the series wore on, and had a tough warrior like Xena actually caring about a cross-dresser. So yes, it was preachy and PC and contributed to the show losing what little entertain value it had. Of course, it still had hot women which was the reason a lot of people tuned in.

(bows)....very nice...lol :)

I cannot fault a good comeback. Funny thing is...I actually commend you. Normally I just get some Xena fan who reports me time and time again. So at the very least you had the integrity to not do that either.

I like Joxer as the clumsy guy that became part of the gang. Sorry, but I don't think Ted Raimi could carry his own show even with that zapped change.
