Is this movie too 'white' to be made today?

When Apollo 13 was made, the lack of diversity was probably not given a second thought. This was history, and accuracy rules. I find it hard to believe that this 'very white male' movie would be green lit (let alone given a blockbuster budget )in 2018.

The US is increasingly becoming more diverse, and Hollywood is rightly looking to reflect this diversity. So I am glad that they got movie in the can before Hollywood could say...Good story but too much white male!

They should make a redo with an all black cast that mixes in some hip hop, singing and dancing.

Call it: Showtime at the Apollo 13

Lack of diversity and whitewashing is still very much a thing in Hollywood.

Emma Stone as Allison Ng in Aloha.
Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily in Pan
Scarlett Johansson as Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell
Christian Bale as Moses in Exodus: Gods and Kings
Jake Gyllenhaal as Dastan in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games

There are lots more examples.

The Democrats and hollyweird world try and remake history and add another astronaut.

Not today, there is an unwritten rule in hollyweird that won't promote such things.
Theu have formulas to follow...

If they stuck with historical accuracy, according to the new rules at the Academy, it would now be ineligible for Oscar nominations due to lack of diversity.

I'm sure there were some Jews in the production credits, so that's good enough.

Any movie made up until the 90s would be considered too white by todays standards.

Star Wars, ET, Back to the Future, Top Gun, Jaws. Pretty much every major movie had an all white cast in those times.

The modern version would have invented history for the sake of diversity. Much like "Hidden Figures" has done (to a great degree), or the intentional alt-history "For All Mankind," which has such egregious misrepresentations of the culture of NASA at the time that it's disgusting, and should be disgusting to anyone who has an actual interest in the real history of the US space program.
