Was Sam a big inspiration for the overall vibe/style of the Nucky Thompson character from Boardwalk Empire?
After watching his, I really did get the impression that Nucky from Boardwalk Empire was significantly inspired by Sam. I do know that Nucky Thompson was loosely based on Nucky Johnson, yet the actual traits/quirks of the character really reminded me a lot of Same.
- The colorful suits, the chainsmoking, the expertise/emphasis on quality entertainment and hospitilaity for visiting big wigs, the well intentioned nature yet harsh irritability towards employees = all things that both Sam and Nucky seemed to really display prominently
