It is not a game

It's a 'dangerous problem generator', if anything.

A GAME is supposed to give you JOY through the challenges and such, it's not supposed to be ALL HORRIBLE.

A game is supposed to have a balance in things you can ACHIEVE in it and CHALLENGES that stand in your way and that you must conquer.

A game is not just 'bringing crap to your face that you have to survive with no point'.

This is definitely not a game, which is why I hate the whole stupid premise. A real game would have blessings as well as curses, not just curse after another with no blessings.

For example, there might be things that try to kill ya, but you can pick up healing items, weapons, shields, spells, whatever on the way that make you stronger. This happens in MANY games, too many to even try to list.

There might be scary and dangerous things in a game, but there will be bandages, health packs, healers, teleports, useful items that help you and such. This makes the game interesting, because you have agency, you get rewards, you get all kinds of interesting things that help you with the challenges.

Jumanji just pushes dangerous crap your way and calls it a day. Sigh. This is not a game, this is just one big problem.

It is a game. Not a very good one, but it is a game. Actually it is a quite old game, called game of the goose. Look it up.

The game design is not very good by modern standars, because you only have one piece and no actual input to make, other than rolling the dice, what makes it a pure luck game.

The Jumanji game has the added bonus of the player needing to survive the encounter, so maybe, some rich guy payed a wizard to make their game more interesting and the wizard did an oopsie and cursed it.

And I disagree that games are supposed to give joy. The purpose of games is not the defining attribute that makes them games. But joy is a very good incentive for people to play a game, so most games have some form of joy for the players, so the game does get played.
