Dubbed or Subbed?

Ok, so I bought Ghost in the Shell a couple days ago and have yet to watch it, but am very excited to. My dilemma is this: should I watch it with the English voiceovers, or stick with the original Japanese audio track and just put on the subtitles? I'm the kind of guy who prefers to watch anime in it's original Japanese form, but not if it takes away from the action I'm watching on the screen. If a lot of stuff is going on, I don't want to have to constantly look back and fourth between fast-paced animation and words, and I have a feeling this is one of those kinds of anime. Example: I have to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion in English cause there's just too much dialogue going on at the same time as lots of action, but I can watch Elfen Lied in Japanese cause a million things aren't happening on the screen at once. So does the English audio take anything at all away from the enjoyment of the movie? Or are the subtitles for Japanese audio relatively easy to follow as I watch?

i was just wondering the same thing. i started watching it with the dub and i find the voices annoying. better with the subs maybe

I only watch movies in their original language. For this movie, SUBBED all the way. I don't even bother with dubs on my anime.

I don't watch anime usually, only GitS and GitS:SAC. I watch it with the English voices. It's animated, it doesn't matter. And in GitS and GitS Innocence there is so much info to get, so much speech, that if you don't read very fast or know Japanese, it's hard to get while enjoying the movie. I've seen it with subs as well, but I don't feel I'm missing out anything with the English soundtrack.

I prefer watching it subbed. I know at the start Motoko says something about the static being "that time of the month" but when it's dubbed, she says "must be a loose wire"

I'd like to see a re-dub with Mary Elizabeth McGlynn as Motoko.

Oh, absolutely! I can't stand to watch this dubbed, because that Mimi Woods just sucks the life out of every scene, especially in the early one in the van, where she's explaining to Togusa all about the Puppet Master. Perk it up, would ya?

Always stick the original. The director had an input in their work.

Yeah I watched it for the first time last night, was kinda drunk and lazy though so I just went with Dubbed. The movie was still great, but I did find the voice acting pretty average.. So maybe Subbed. That's what I'll be going with next time.

I generally prefer watching anime dubbed as it's an extremely visual medium (yes all films are visual, but with anime so much effort has been poured into every single frame) and they usually have a lot of very complex dialogue that goes by very fast. However I watched this film subbed and didn't have a problem, so in this case I advocate the latter. There's not too much dialogue and when there is very little is happening on the screen.

I prefer watching foreign films sub title. Mainly because 9 times out 10 they're poorly dubbed (Lip movement doesn't match the talking/Emotions through the voice are poorly done) etc. But the dubbing in Ghost In The Shell is actually well voiced. Either one is good.
