Top 10 Movies of Your Loneliness Moments

Well, what are your top ten movies you would like to watch being alone? Just disconnect your soul from everything else on earth in that moment and watch that?

Let's start with mine: (in no particular order)

Leaving Las Vegas
American Beauty
Punch-Drunk Love
The Hours
The Age of Innocence
Into The Wild
Magnolia
The Sweet Hereafter
Taxi Driver
The Green Mile

reply

Cast Away - a movie about loneliness and isolation

reply

Twilight. It really made me long for an Edward of my own.

Except comedies, I tend to like to watch most movies alone more. It's much easier for me. By the way, your list is great.

Taxi Driver
Into The Wild
Leaving Las Vegas
Jackie Brown
A Clockwork Orange
Paranoid Park
Do the Right Thing
25th Hour
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Waking Life

Last movies seen:

Synecdoche, New York: 9.5/10
Rachel Getting Married: 9.5/10
Leaving Las Vegas: 10/10
I Love You, Man: 7.5/10

The Wicker Man. 2006 remake

Great Question (my list is similar):

Leaving Las Vegas
Sideways
The Departed
Dog Day Afternoon
About Schmidt
Jerry Maguire
The Sweet Hereafter
The Deer Hunter
For the Love of The Game
Cast Away

reply

I would agree with OP's list more than yours. I never thought A Clockwork Orange is about loneliness: never felt that way. I thought it was a movie about delinquent, psycho... stuff like that!

Taxi Driver is my fav, but I would add Sea of Love too: at least the first part of the movie really depicts loneliness well IMO.

you & I have some similar choices, I loved Jacob's Ladder & The Fountain. Both of them are very depressing films, gud for loneliness moments

reply

I saw you post this on the american beauty board

"I'm gonna give you a little somethin' you can't take off. "

reply

Yeah, That's becauese it's on my top ten too. Also Taxi Driver....

I like to see the variety of the answers because i think it directly links with one's personality... Someone who prefers to watch Tim Burton's movies is not the same with one who likes Kubrick's.

reply

Yeah I understand, some people stick to one type of movie, but people like you and me enjoy a variety?

"I'm gonna give you a little somethin' you can't take off. "

reply

I'd toss in 7 Pounds on top of all movies previously mentioned

reply

Since no one has mentioned it yet - Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Not so much a film about loneliness, but if you are lonely and miss someone it just hits you hard and makes you reflect back on what could've been.

How can one forget The Straight Story! Wonderful movie to watch on my own!

And your list, and most here, are indeed not bad at all...

Mine (that I can think of):

Straight Story
About Schmidt
Lost In Translation
Leaving Las Vegas (just saw, and it REALLY moved me)
Into The Wild
Taxi Driver
Collateral
Traffic
11:14
Mulholland Drive
Lost Highway
Schindler's List
The Pianist
The Elephant Man
Cast Away
Dogville
Brokeback Mountain
Last of the Mohicans
Paris, Texas
Girl With A Pearl Earring

A lot of forgein beautiful, and slow (read: deep) movies too:

The Bow
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring
Bin Jip
2046
In the Mood For Love
Red Sorghum
Dancer In the Dark
City Of God
Lucia y el Sexo
Mar Adentro

Just realise most of this list comes from the fact I enjoyed the movie most when I watched it alone, and/or had the best memories from it when watching it alone...

Guess there are still A LOT out there!
