Only 7.1?

I'd say it's not. I think a high, above-average score of 7+ is very reasonable. I loved the film, but there were certain aspects that fell short, his relationship with his son being something that needed further examination.
I also felt, though realistic, the ending felt a bit like a PSA for funding school arts programs.
The musical choices were average except for the final movement of Holland's composition which was really a bit simplistic- though maybe that was the point- that Holland was an excellent teacher but a mediocre composer who never would have been successful at it.
Macy was a cliche as were most of the students.

I think a 7-star rating is very fair.
