the chat she used

I noticed that when she was chatting to her to be boyfriend/stalker. that when she typed something in or recieved something her computer read it in a voice. I want a program that does that for places like yahoo or icq. anyone know of something like that, that DOESNT COST ANYTHING?

reply

It's called a Macintosh. Text-to-Speech is available in any program.

reply

Ooh, snap! :)

Hail to the King, baby! OS X does it all.

Macintosh reads the messages in voice??

(I never had one, that´s why I am surprised)

reply

KDE and Gnome desktop environments for Linux also come with text-to-speech programs.

i thought the voice speaking was very scary.

actually what I was truly interested in was not the aspect of her typing something ,but instead when she walked away she talked to the computer while she did something like prepare a meal. and the computer would hear her and type it in for her. thats what I thought was cool. its like I cuold be doing something with my hands that took me away from the keyboard. and I could just Dictate what I wanted to chat, and the computer would enter it then wait a few seconds and send the message.

reply

its also called using a telephone.

oh funny

I pointed out to my friend on how after she typed something, she would receive a response instantly. I guess they weren't kidding when they said they had her identity, they knew exactly what she was going to say before she was.

Because sponges never have bad days.

very funny and half true. but the fact that the internet offers a cheaper solution to calling someone you know on the other side of the world. I think I'd rather put up with voice, and Video chat thanks.

but this application would be so much more fun to use then voice chat because you couild make the voice do weird combinations. make yourself sound like darth vader or something.

I've also heard of the programs that make your voice online synthesize to sound like what ever you like as long as its programmed.

reply

ohhh cop that haha

I remember using Trillian IM (which is compatible with AIM, Yahoo, etc) with a Text-to-speech application AND with voice recognition at the same time! It was fun. It would read everything to me that the other parties said, and it would type for me everything I said. Very cool! I don't remember exactly what I used though, so you'd have to do some research on your own on that one.

Given movies usually take a year to produce and release, here's what you should know.

The computer she was using was a Power Macintosh 8100

The OS was Mac OS 7(most likely version 7.1)

The program that made it talk was Text to Speech, which came with Mac OS

The chat program itself was one called "Homer", which has long since been dropped as a chat program

damn thanks for the info cause it would be great to have what some blind people have.

being able to speak into a mic and the computer would type it in for you.

Yes, pretty much any laptop or cell phone has text to voice.

reply
