True story ?

Was this based on something that really happened if so where were the villages located ?

reply

No, but if you want to read a true story, pick up The Hot Zone. It's a quick read detailing the Reston, VA "outbreak."

The Hot Zone is full of tabloid-style scaremongering.

Myself, I would recommend: - Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic by David Quammen. More considered, more factual and less *beep* WE'REALLGONNADIE!

How can you say the hot zone is a true story. It is one of the biggest reason people believe so many false facts about ebola not to mention the Reston ebolavirus it was based on is a strain if ebola completely harmless to humans.

From the FAQ: Although the story is fictional, it was inspired by an outbreak of Ebola hemorrhagic fever in Africa in 1976 and similar outbreaks in Virginia, Texas, the Philippines, and Italy. In the case of this movie, the virus is called the "Motaba virus".
