Don't watch this... watch contagion instead

Contagion was a fantastic thriller compared with this... full of menace, suspense and action...

This was just stupid...

Can't I watch and enjoy both? But entertainment wise enjoyed OUTBREAK more.
Contagion was fine, but seemed very forgettable TO ME. Actually, I watched with much interest, can't remember much of it at all.... except Matt Damon was in it, right? I don't know.... seemed okay, but none of it stuck to me - except the soundtrack. I remembered I liked the weird synthy soundtrack - seemed spooky weird but very fitting.

Everybody is different.

Agree with you 100% , but some people I guess can't like both as you see...

Had to chuckle to myself when I saw this thread. I just watched Outbreak for the first time tonight and immediately after watching it thought to myself that it was like House meets Contagion (even though this came before both).

Personally, I thought it was interesting that the first half of the film was focused on how the spread of disease can occur in today's world and then shifted
quite strongly into an action oriented movie. Contagion, on the other hand, starts of like Outbreak in a way, but then evolves into a character driven drama. The latter of course was more realistic (shooting down the idea of blood serums or vaccines being able to be created so quickly- which was kind of funny in Outbreak), but both have their merits. It just depends what you're looking for in a film.

At the very least both semi-educate people about the spread of viruses and bacteria in world as populated as ours and how health professionals attempt to understand and control such things.

In the end you should hopefully know the following: wash your hands before eating or touching yourself, cover your mouth when coughing, do not french kiss somebody who looks like they just went a round with the Mohamed Ali of plagues, and- I really can't stress these last two enough- DO NOT STICK YOUR HANDS INTO RUNNING CENTRIFUGES OR LET INFECTIOUS MONKEYS SPIT INTO YOUR MOUTH!!

Enough said.

I actually enjoyed them both, although they both lose steam in their third acts. And yes, the helicopter action scenes at the end of Outbreak, were ridiculous.

I thought Outbreak was more disturbing in that the virus' effects on people was much more graphically shown.

Also, to op, Contagion was pretty much a rip-off of this movie. So I'd just recommend people watch them both, they're both pretty good for the most part.

Outbreak is the best movie ever having to do with a deadly virus that has the possibility to wipe out millions of people. Only a person who actually is stupid would say it's a stupid movie. If you haven't seen Outbreak it's well worth checking out it has everything you'd want in movie, even if you're not into these kinds of movies it's great not to mention all the great actors in it that play well written characters...

Yeah, this movie was pretty *beep* stupid. It could've been a really tense, realistic film about a virus spreading across America but instead, they just made another big, dumb Hollywood blockbuster with cliched dialogue, generic music, shmultzy scenes, and dumb politics.
