Outbreak = Dirty Moviemaking..?

If the story from Tales Form Development Hell on how Outbreak came about is true, wow... it just made my admiration for its film makers go down the tubes.. It was Supposedly based on a New Yorker article about a Real outbreak in the US that was thwarted off by a husband & wife team of Army doctors. The story rights were sold to a female producer who set out to make a film about it.. The had Ridley Scott, Jodie Foster, Robert Redford et al to begin work on The Hot Zone.. While they were going through rewrites... it was pretty much stolen/cloned by rival filmmakers and went on to become OUTBREAK..

Happens more often than you would think. Movies studios often keep an eye out for what they think may be the next hot thing, and then put their own version of it into production. Think Deep Impact and Armageddon, or Dante's Peak and Volcano.
