Question about the beginning.

When before credits Morgan Freeman's character asks that detective "Did the kid see it?" and he was like "What a dumb question, who gives a f*ck", I wonder...

What if it actually WAS a legitimate question? What if that kid is now a WITNESS who can help confirm and solve officially that murder case? What if he may not need help and therapy in related areas?

Why not just answer politely "Not as far as we know or are aware at this moment" or something?

I guess the detective didn't want any further paperwork. He got upset about Somerset's overanalyzing and attention to detail approach. He thinks to himself, "God dammit, Somerset, we already solved the case, leave it alone."

It is possible that the detective also thinks that Somerset tends to delve into areas that go beyond average police work. In this case, he probably means that it is a matter related to the Ministry of Welfare and the medical authorities, not the police.
