Is the Tales from the Crypt involvement. The Crypt Keeper wrap around. Ugh. I always fast forward that crap. And it made the Demon Knight storyline shorter.

I know it's been a long time since you posted your msg, but I agree with you completely. The Cryptkeeper is often very annoying. And why that whole 'movie scene' beginning if it wasn't part of the actual movie?

They were doing an homage to the original comic books.
The movies, like the TV show episodes, are based on or inspired by the EC Comics horror comic books, with titles including TALES FROM THE CRYPT, HAUNT OF FEAR and VAULT OF HORROR (the tv show borrowed stories from several and you can see the title credited). These horror comics ran from around 1950-1955.
The Crypt-Keeper was the main host in the TALES FROM THE CRYPT comic book, with the Vault-Keeper and The Old Witch as "secondary" hosts for other stories. As in the movies and TV show, Crypt-Keeper would be at the start and end of the stories with those legendary (or legendarily awful) puns.
The movie was treaded way too much like just a longer episode of Tales from the Crypt. I mean, I like The Crypt Keeper and all but they just needed to make the main storyline a little bit longer and just focus on that. There was no need to change the tone so much before and after the 'main movie'.
