He was a demon, so no, he wasn't in love with her. That's why he couldn't say the word love! He was the king of he liars, but he just couldn't make himself say that one.

I don't think he LOVED her but you have to question why he didn't kill/possess her in that room with her portrait when he had the chance. I'm sure he could have considering how easy it was to possess Danny. I'm also pretty sure that the Collector had to be aware of the seven people/seven stars bit. While his ultimate goal was to get the key and kill Brayker, it doesn't seem that he would knowingly leave anyone to survive to be the next guardian if he could help it. This is why I say that maybe he really did have some sort of queer fascination with Jerryline since he let her survive as long as she did. Just a theory.

He couldn't just possess people. The person had to choose to let the demon into their hearts(or souls, or whatever you want to call it). And I don't think he was there with her in a physical sense. He couldn't get past the blood seals, so I believe it was more of an astral attack on their minds. That being said, I think that's why he didn't just kill her (or the others) when he was "there" with them, trying to tempt them onto his side--it was because he couldn't. I'm sure it would of been much easier for him if he could have.

"I'm sure he could have considering how easy it was to possess Danny."

Danny was probably just weaker willed than some of the others. Remember the Collector's temptations also didn't affect the hotel's owner (the lady missing her arm).

"If he could help it" being the key words here. What do you think he was trying to do the whole time? Possess everyone he could and kill them all to get the key. What would have happened if Jeryline hadn't found a way to kill the demonic-Danny? I'm sure the demon would have killed her too, or would have tried to.

"This is why I say that maybe he really did have some sort of queer fascination with Jerryline since he let her survive as long as she did. Just a theory.'

I agree that there was some fascination with her (I'm a romantic at heart), but I don't think he willingly let her live so long. That was just how things turned out due to circumstances and her own will to survive (and God might have had something to do with it to; she was "chosen" after all).

Near the end when it was just the two of them and the Collector had the key I believe he got cocky, and that was way he didn't kill her outright. He knew (or thought he knew) that he was going to come out the victor. He had the key, all the other mortals were dead, and Jeryline was hurt and helpless to stop him (once again, or so he thought). Being a demon I think he couldn't help but play with his prey a little. I do believe he did want her to come over to the other side. He said it himself that a Demon Knight had never done so before, but I don't think he was trying to get her to join because he liked/loved her. He's a demon, thus a selfish being. He was probably thinking of the promotion he'd be getting from Satan himself for, not just finally getting the key, but for also corrupting one of God's little key-keepers.

If he did care about her I believe it only stretched as far as her usefulness to him. If he couldn't use her to better himself in some way then he would just kill her (like he was going to when she didn't agree to come join the demons' side).

He couldnt possess her because she was the chosen one mby?

He could only possess people who were susceptible to his charms. She was not feeling it and she was the person that Brayker was seeking. The others were sinners in their own ways including the child. He was able to manipulate each one with what he thought would work. He offered her a life. She only left the room looking crazy because he showed her a scene of demons killing her.

I think the KEY to this (heh heh heh) is the part where the Collector mentions "no one's ever brought a Demon Knight over to the other side before" (I also think, btw, that's the only time the title phrase is spoken in the film by someone who's not the Cryptkeeper).

See, at this stage - he has the key, so it seems likely he doesn't need to convince her of anything, but perhaps he plans to take her soul as a status symbol/bragging right on 'the other side'. Every collector before has died rather than be taken or tempted by a Collector. They resisted. Even though Jeryline (spelling?) does well in the film, she has a period where things go terribly - the collector actually has the key in his hands at this stage! It didn't bring the darkness back "just like that" as we were warned probably because it wasn't brought into alignment with the other keys, but it was pretty close. So, my personal theory, is that he does not love her but wants to possess her soul as a trophy of sorts now he has (he thinks) bested her.
